Interior Decorator: Fine Fabrics, Color Consultation

Nina Elo-Piacquad has an appreciation for elegant interior design. As the daughter of a Finnish architect/engineer she was surrounded by mid-century modern architecture and design. She recalls visiting buildings, bridges and dams in Northern Europe and the United States with her father to observe their beauty of design as well as their function. This emphasis of form serving function is evident in her home designs. Her window treatments work to control light and privacy as well as frame the windows. Fine furniture and fabrics in the rooms are edited to steer clear of frill and formality.

Nina graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. in English and then pursued a career in fashion merchandising and management. This led to a position in buying and distribution for the world’s largest home furnishings store, IKEA. There, she continued to develop an eye for color, fabric and product design that makes a home function with style and elegance.

While raising a family and creating her own home, Nina combined her eye for elegant design with her attention to detail as a seamstress. She created window treatments using fabrics and enviable interior designs that drew numerous requests from friends and family for her interior decorating services and expertise. In October 2003, Nina at Home, LLC was formed to meet these requests and to provide the design and creation of custom window treatments. The business expanded as clients began asking for additional design services. The attention to detail in the fabrication of fine window treatments is still a key element of every design project. Custom window treatment designs remain elegant and classical with a focus on fine fabrics and quality workmanship.

Nina submitted a window and room design in the “Designers Debut” category for the 20th Annual Window Fashions Envision Design Competition, produced by Window Fashions magazine. Her entry was awarded second place and published in the April 2005 edition of this national trade publication for the window fashions industry. Nina holds an Associate level certification from the WFCP.
